When a Religious Professional Leaves When a minister or Director of Religious Education announces that he or she is leaving, we encourage you to call the District Office and let us know as soon as possible. We can help to make sure you have the resources in place to make it a smooth transition with things such as planning for an interim, arranging for consultants to help with compensation and visioning, conducting Search Committee retreats, and answering questions about the process.
In addition to services by the District Staff, we have consultants available at no charge to you to help you through the process. These include Ministerial Settlement Representatives (MSRs) and District Compensation Consultants (DCCs). When a minister leaves, the UUA Transitions Office assigns an MSR to work with your congregation. The DCCs are available to you at times of transition and can also help any time you have questions about compensation. Contact the District Office (800-549-0751 or sed@uua.org) if you have more questions.
District Compensation Consultants District Compensation Consultants (DCC) provide information to our congregations about fair compensation for ministers, DREs, and all other staff members. This information is based on the guidelines as originally passed by the delegates at our 1995 General Assembly, and as they have been updated (approvals by our Trustees). The DCCs work with the Professional Staff in the office of Professional Staff Finance at the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), the District Executive, the National DCC Volunteer Coordinator, your district's Ministerial Settlement Representative(s), and the Settlement Office. To find out more about the role of DCCs and fair compensation, visit: UUA Compensation info.

Ministerial Settlement Representatives (MSRs) MSRs are available to congregations to guide them through the search process for a new full-time minister. When a minister leaves, the UUA Transitions Office sends an email to the congregational president with the contact information for the MSR assigned to them. It is highly recommended that the MSR be contacted to help the board define the process for selecting a search committee. Then once the search committee is selected, the MSR is their primary contact throughout the process. The MSR will work with the search committee so they understand the UUA settlement system and then offer consultation and assistance as the search is underway.
To find out more about the transitions process and how the MSRs can help, visit Transitions.
