Spirit Play and Multi Generational Training Opportunities

This full day of training opportunities will focus on faith development opportunities across generations. Three different tracks will provide ideas to enhance and grow your congregation's programs in religious education for children, multigenerational worship and multigenerational social justice ministry.

Thomas Jefferson District Religious Education Committee

presents

Track 1:  Spirit Play Curriculum Training

The Spirit Play Curriculum is a ‘New Model’ for offering Religious Education within Unitarian Universalist Congregations for three to ten year olds. The program is an adaptation of the original Godly Play used by Christian Congregations Curriculum based Maria Montessori’s theory of children’s learning processes.  The curriculum incorporates hands-on, aesthetic story and art materials to help the children make sense of life’s religious questions and spiritual experiences.  The stories come from our six Unitarian Sources and our seven Unitarian principles.  The training will be provided by registered Spirit Play trainer, Dr. Nita Penfold.  This workshop is limited to 15 people. More detailed information about this track can be found here.

Track 2: Leading Multi Generational Worship

Creating worship for many generations together in our congregations is both challenging and rewarding to the leaders. We will explore a way to create worship that involves ritual, narrative and metaphor.  The work of creation is a way of making visible the parts of life that move us deeply. This day long workshop will introduce a small group process to create and lead worship in small congregations. The workshop is for lay leaders, worship associates, religious professionals and multi age groups.
The Rev. Sue Sinnamon, facilitator

Track 3: Multi Generational Social Justice

This day long workshop will explore opportunities for social justice that can involve folks of all ages. We will explore how to find and establish partnerships with organizations and groups in the local community to provide education and hands on activities around issues that are important to you and your congregation. We will also talk about how to engage with other congregations and the larger UUA world to really engage youth and young adults in social justice. The workshop is for lay leaders, social justice leaders, activists, religious professionals, youth and young adults.
Donna Sequeira, M.Div., facilitator
