We invite you to attend a Basic Youth Advisor Training co-facilitated by Kathleen Carpenter, DRE, UU Church of Charlotte and Ann Harrison, DRE, UU Congregation of the Low Country.
The Youth Advisor Training focuses on the following:
Experiential activities that can be used in youth groups
Balanced youth programming
Concrete ideas for youth group / RE class programming
Roles and responsibilities of youth advisors
Risk management and safety
What to know about CONs
New this year - Guided conversations with some of the experienced advisors present at the con
Handouts and a resource table to browse.
And of course we will talk up YOUTH CAUCUS – the program for high school youth that takes place during the UUA’s annual General Assembly – which this year will be in Charlotte!!
This will be the fifth
time the district has combined a YA Training with a Youth CON. Because it is a unique format, please note
the following:
While the YA training is sponsored by the District, the CON is sponsored by
the UU Church of Charlotte. They are
totally separate in terms of payment and leadership.
The training will take place while other CON activities are occuring. It is assumed that enough adults will NOT be in the training to supervise the youth during the actual training time. If not, adults from UUCC will be asked to volunteer in that capacity.
Advisors with youth MUST stay on site all weekend – sleeping at the church; those withoutmay sleep at the church Friday night or find
a hotel room nearby. The only meal
provided for non-CON advisors is Sat lunch.
