A Workshop for Congregational Leaders
March 9 and 10, 2012 Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta, GA
Presented by Southeast District Exceutive, Annette Marquis
Unitarian Universalist congregations value diversity; it is one of the foundations that guides all of the principles we hold in common. Yet conflict often arises around differences of opinion in process, in leadership style, in worship, in identity, even in theology. Dealing with divisive issues can be challenging for any congregation.
This workshop will explore ways that congregational leaders can anticipate and prepare for conflict, prevent destructive interactions in the congregations, and help their members engage each other constructively. We will explore the role of Right Relationship Teams and how to address interpersonal and congregational conflicts so everyone shares in the ministry of creating the beloved community.
In this workshop, we’ll explore:
- Unitarian Universalism as a relational faith
- The meaning of covenant and right relationship in a congregation
- The role of a right relationship team
- Identifying and naming conflict
- Transforming conflict in a congregation
- What is a safe congregation?
- Relationship of a right relationship team with the Board and the minister
- Going forward in faith
