Civil Rights Veterans Gathering in Asheville, North Carolina (30 March - 01 April, 2012)
For the first time ever, current and former Unitarian Universalists who were active in the civil
rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s will come together to share
stories, meet each other, see old friends, and most importantly,
preserve
an important part of our Unitarian Universalist heritage. Throughout
the weekend, speakers will participate in panel discussions and share
individual histories to shape the future of our faith through their
legacy of courage and conviction. Dr. Dorothy Cotton will present the
keynote address, and further details about the speakers will be released
as they emerge.
As we prepare for the event, the Southeast
District and the Living Legacy Pilgrimage are asking Civil Rights
veterans to share their stories. We
are especially hopeful to include people of color, whose relationship
to a congregation may have been informal or unofficial, and lay people,
whose roles may have been less recognized than those of ministers. If
you have a story you would like to share with the UU Civil Rights
archives, please click here.
We urge you to attend this exciting, historic event. To register, or to learn more about the event, please click here to visit the Living Legacy Pilgrimage website.
