Confronting Bullying: A Multi-generational Approach to Social Justice Initiatives
Do
you or your congregation want to respond to the issue of bullying in
our schools today, especially as it relates to BGLTQ youth and young
adults?
Is your social justice program needing some rejuvenation? Do you want to engage in activities across generations? Would you like to work with other congregations in your area to maximize your impact?
This
hands-on, multi-generational event will give us the opportunity to
model how to embrace social justice initiatives across all ages while
also allowing us to confront the issue of bullying in our society today.
We will learn skills to communicate and reflect theologically with all
ages. There will be opportunities for adults to learn firsthand from our
children and youth about the bullying they confront everyday in our
schools and over the internet. We will explore the arts as tools to
engage in social justice. We will have opportunities for activism and
spiritual exploration. We will conclude with worship that reflects our
experience together followed by the sharing of lunch to remind us that
ultimately the antidote to bullying is the building of connections and
relationships.
This multi-congregation event will be held at the First Unitarian
Church of Lynchburg. All ages are encouraged to attend. The event is
facilitated by Donna Sequeira, Social Justice Coordinator for the Thomas
Jefferson District.
