As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Unitarian Universalist Association, we have an historic opportunity for Unitarian Universalists in the Southeast to do something bold, something courageous, something that will create a new dawn of justice for all people in our region.
In order to make this vision a reality, the Southeast District announces a three-year, $250,000 campaign. With these funds, we will:
Support the current Racial and Social Justice Coordinator position in the SED in order to:
Increase multicultural intentionality within our congregations
Focus attention on racial justice within a Southern context
Develop social justice training programs and initiatives for all ages at cluster, district or regional levels
Create linkages between congregations to maximize our social justice impact
Assist congregations in developing effective interfaith and community partnerships for specific community projects
Connect congregations, advocates, and partner organizations through social media and other means for quick and effective action on important issues
Provide scholarships and stipends for youth and young adults engage in racial and social justice initiatives, including attendance at the 2012 Justice GA in Phoenix, AZ
Seed UU state legislative advocacy groups that would work with congregations and clusters on key UU social issues
Create and share effective models for doing racial and social justice work that are grounded in Unitarian Universalist congregational life.
Please join us in bending the arc toward justice in the Southeast!
